I have an 19 month old female black lab. She was with a 'trainer' here in N. Texas for a little over a year, and was supposed to be training for AKC hunt tests. Never got any reports there was a problem "she's doing good", and he said "she would test this fall".
After a year-
Her obedience is sloppy, nothing is crisp.
She doesn't know sit on whistle or any basic handling, balks on "Dead bird, back".
Sees cover as an obstacle, doesn't push through on marks or when hunting a downed bird.
Is cowing at coming to heel when training or hunting, seems to see the zone around my left knee as something 'bad', wants to heel up behind my right leg. I have to coax her to come to heel on my left knee.
She will pick up a bumper and occasionally a double.
I know each dog is different, but wanted opinions on the basics I should have expected after a year of training.
