Of course. I just registered a litter last week from a sire that died six years ago.

I never knew that. How do they prevent fraud? Got to be some serious record keeping and accountability to make the system dependable.

All Cosmo breedings in the past few years, almost all of the Lean Mac breedings in probably 10 years and so on down the list. There are tons of FC and AFC out of these 2 sires alone who are AI. Lean Mac was born in 1990. That is 22 years ago so you know how many have been born long after he had passed his prime and then passed away.

The facility or vet that keeps the frozen has records and the vet that did the surgery has to sign the papers. You can also do 2 sires but the pups have to be DNAed.

Oh, wow... two sires. That would be an interesting litter to advertise.

Having just done an AI on my maiden bitch Tip, I decided to do a little research on RTF and found this old poll. I voted yes. I've bred to Cosmo twice. Both done by AI. 14 pups total.

Ive also been fortunate enough to be involved in 3 other breedings that were all AIs. All 3 were to a bitch out of our first Cosmo litter. Her first breeding was to Rudy-5 pups, 2nd to Shaq-6 pups, 3rd to Grady-3 pups

My fingers are crossed with my latest AI breeding between FC/AFC-Pow and my Tip. Hope to get a few in legit trial homes!!!

Frankly the whole system is based off trust, certainly plenty of unscrupulous people in the world. So other than what the breeder claims are the parents, how would you know without doing a DNA test.

Absolutely, just off the top of my head, Carol Snodgrass has a very nice FC bitch by FC-AFC Mighty Mo who died about 15 years before Ruby was born.

DNA test are becoming easy to do and good for a lot of reasons, I think just knowing someone could check by DNA is going to keep people honest.

If a sire has been bred more than a certain # of times he has to have a DNA profile on file w/the AKC, so I'm sure that would be the case with Lean Mac, Cosmo, etc. Yes, AKC registration is based on the honor system but I doubt it really happens in the FT community. If you were caught fraudulently registering dogs, you'd lose AKC privileges including being able to compete, register or sell offspring of your dogs, etc.
