Default FT History Pics (sort of)

It has been said that Jay Carlisle was responsible more than any other individual for bringing the Labrador Retriever to the United States and making it as popular as it has become.

Further, it was Mr. Carlisle that hired Dave Eliott to be his gamekeeper ("dog trainer"). It was Eliott that introduced handling to field trials.

Here is a website that documents Mr. Carlisle's home and property --

Dave Elliot was brought up in the traditional atmosphere of the Scottish gamekeeper, among whose functions was the training of hunting dogs. He was invited to the U.S.A. by Jay Carlisle to manage his famous Wingan Kennels. I first met Dave in 1958, and have a a copy of his book that he signed for me. It's a great little book, with illustrations by Ernest H. Hart. If you can find a copy, it's titled "Training Gun Dogs To Retrieve" and was published by Henry Holt and Company under the Field & Stream outdoor series.
