What has everyone been paying to have ACL repairs done? I have an 8yr old that I think needs a repair and I just want to be sure I don't get jacked by the vet.

I would definitely say...it all depends where you are located.

Just had 2 "estimates". Both are highly known for doing the "band" surgery on older dogs.

1st: $1600.00 -$2000.00. This includes 3 Hydrotherapy treatments and any meds.

2nd: (Ortho. Specialist): $850.00 -$1000.00. No HydroTherapy but all Meds are included.

Best Wishes 8)

Dr. Beebe(sp?) in Pittsburgh Pa. (ortho) cost us 1500 all inclusive. Therapy my wife did but this was not our first dog being done. Therapy was 3 or 4 steps depending how you looked at it.
1) confined rest, baby gated bathroom.
2) house rest
3) hand walked and moved on as she showed progress.
Our pace was slow by some standards. 9 to 10 months before she was allowed to start running. However everone had drawn the conclusion that she would have to have the other leg done withing 6 months. That was in May of 05 and so far she is doing fine. Do we worry a little when she pushes off, sure we do, she is a big girl pushing almost 90 pounds.

Ok she sits a little funny but this was her first goose hunt, Jan. 06

Dale,
I would be just as if not more concerned about teh stopping hard. i almost cringe at times when I see my dogs running all out and slam on the brakes right at the bird/bumper. That is a lot of force that the legs were not necessarily designed to do. Taking off hard they are well set up for. Same thing for jumping down, my dogs never get to jump out of the truck without me helping. Back legs always hit the ground first.

Best of luck with her continued recovery. Great job being patient, good for you.

$1700 from diagnostics to pain meds after surgery, a year ago for TPLO with an orthopedic surgeon on Florida. Follow up xrays at I think 6 weeks out were another $200 or so. This was on a 10 yr old dog, he did wonderful and I do not regret it at all. He is doing great now.

2800.00 bucks for the surgery. Few hundred for follow ups... 876.00 for the Jim Beam shots keeping her calm for 8 weeks...

Oh and I forgot 12.95 for the donuts at the AA meeting I had to put her through and another 23.00 for the long distance calls for step 10....

My cost was 2800 each knee.I cried when the second one went for him and my wallet! Also dont forget things like rehab if you choose to do that at a center and follow up x rays.I am VERY lucky , I work at an animal hospital, so much of what I needed was at cost, except of course the tplo's which were done at another hospital, so it is very expensive, but what else can you do?
