What has everyone been paying to have ACL repairs done? I have an 8yr old that I think needs a repair and I just want to be sure I don't get jacked by the vet.
In Northern VA $2800 for a TPLO including all preop and post op visits and meds. I have heard people have paid less, but this place is close to me and the vet is good.
My girl had TPLO last year. The surgery, which included work-up, meds and post-op instructions cost around $2000. I spent another $1000 for a rehab vet and for hydro therapy. My dog has had complete recovery and is as sound as she was prior to surgery.
Dr. Beebe(sp?) in Pittsburgh Pa. (ortho) cost us 1500 all inclusive. Therapy my wife did but this was not our first dog being done. Therapy was 3 or 4 steps depending how you looked at it.
1) confined rest, baby gated bathroom.
2) house rest
3) hand walked and moved on as she showed progress.
Our pace was slow by some standards. 9 to 10 months before she was allowed to start running. However everone had drawn the conclusion that she would have to have the other leg done withing 6 months. That was in May of 05 and so far she is doing fine. Do we worry a little when she pushes off, sure we do, she is a big girl pushing almost 90 pounds.
Ok she sits a little funny but this was her first goose hunt, Jan. 06
Dale,
I would be just as if not more concerned about teh stopping hard. i almost cringe at times when I see my dogs running all out and slam on the brakes right at the bird/bumper. That is a lot of force that the legs were not necessarily designed to do. Taking off hard they are well set up for. Same thing for jumping down, my dogs never get to jump out of the truck without me helping. Back legs always hit the ground first.
Best of luck with her continued recovery. Great job being patient, good for you.
I was quoted 3500-4000 from my regular vet who also houses orthepedic surgeons So I called Tufts and they quoted me 2600-3000 4 yrs ago my I had a dog done and it was 1500, 8 yrs ago I had a luxating patella repair for 500 :? The ACL repair quoted was TLPO
$1700 from diagnostics to pain meds after surgery, a year ago for TPLO with an orthopedic surgeon on Florida. Follow up xrays at I think 6 weeks out were another $200 or so. This was on a 10 yr old dog, he did wonderful and I do not regret it at all. He is doing great now.

My cost was 2800 each knee.I cried when the second one went for him and my wallet! Also dont forget things like rehab if you choose to do that at a center and follow up x rays.I am VERY lucky , I work at an animal hospital, so much of what I needed was at cost, except of course the tplo's which were done at another hospital, so it is very expensive, but what else can you do?
YIPPPEEE made the trip to TUFTS this am and the knee and all joints are very tight no clicking she seems to think it may be inflammation from banging around the bush so some R&R and inflammatory pills should do the trick, let's pray
