Default linux and unix operating systems

can anyone give me any pro's or con's on these two systems? i am about to revamp my computer system at work and don't know anything about these other than i've heard people say that linux is more reliable than windows, which i currently have. the software company i am looking at says that with the number of workstations i need, i'll probably have to use there unix based system. when answering keep in mind that i have yet to pass computers 101.

    Not nearly enough detailed info.

Unix/Linux is not near as user friendly to install or run as Windows so if you are not computer savy I would not suggest it.

However, they are much more stable OS's than any Windows platform.

What are the workstations going to be used for? Are they single purpose machines that run a specific application like point of sale?

the workstations will be used for point of sale, along with incoming and outgoing orders through a nationwide network. (i own a flower shop). one will be responsible for recievables and payables, payroll etc. the company that sells and supports this system has exclusively served florists for 20 years. kjrice, what more can i tell you to get a better response? i am impressed with the fact that the company still employs the same programmers they started with. my real concern is if i have to go outside of this company for some operating system help, how available will it be?
