    Default Dow Jones

    Looks like there will not be any more dow jones starts. There is a good possibility that dow jones will be bought out by Murdoch's News Corp.

    it's Bush's fault
    May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the person who screws up your day and may their arms be too short to scratch.

    He's just trying to buy it, not shut it down!

    If the deal goes through, they also get the Wall Street Journal and all of its assets, including the on-line division which is what they really want.
    It's such a shame that in the USA, defending Liberty has become such a heroic deed.

    Just what we need. More media consolidation...

    Ain't dat the truth!!!

    Media was deregulated and therefore consolidated by the huge corporations with the signing of the Tele-Comm Deregulation Act of 1996. Signed by Pres Clinton but authored by the Republicans.

    Ten years later, this is the way I see it;

    Tens of thousands of jobs were eliminated.
    Hundreds of small businesss were eliminated that supported the numerous broadcast companies.
    Programming across the country has become homogenized with fewer choices.
    Programming Pioneering is dead because no one wants to take a chance.

    Some had hoped that Satellite Radio would be the savior but they are broke and barely hanging on.

    Now the big groups are selling off their smaller markets and broadcasters are returning to the business that is currently being run by the bean-counters. The big groups are hanging onto their properties in the top 75 markets, so not much change coming to those cities.

    TV consolidation has been a much slower process but, will have the same negative impact for viewers.
    It's such a shame that in the USA, defending Liberty has become such a heroic deed.
