Default Can't Find The Answer in The HT Regs

I am the HT sec for our HT next weekend. I have been emailed by a handler who has his dog entered in Juniors both days. He can not make it one day and wants to know if his cousin can run his dog that one day even though the cousin was not listed on the entry form.

I can't find a thing in the regs about this - I personally see no harm in it, but then again, my initials are AJC not AKC!

Any help will be appreciated. I can always contact AKC and ask them, but thought I'd try here first!

    Thank you!!

He'll be fine. Joie and I have switched out dogs mid-test (after asking) no problem. Might not hurt to make a note of it on the books you send to AKC just in case... If the cousin DOES run the dog. But I've never heard of it being a problem. In a trial, it could cost someone amateur points if the wrong person is listed. But as far as I know and have been told, it's not illegal to swap handlers even if the replacement handler isn't listed, at a hunt test.

Points and passes go to the dog, not the handler.

Can't see it being a problem unless the handler is on some kind of suspension or barred etc.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear... My thought was in terms of qualifying for the national am, for example, if the owner ran the dog in an open and maybe a pro was listed, etc.

That wouldn't matter either Kristie as long as the report sent to AKC was correct.

And I guarantee if a Pro was listed and an Amateur wins an Open, the proper paperwork will be sent because that counts as DOUBLE points.

I have seen this happen a few times. The lined was placed in a spot, down a hill that a elderly man didn't feel comfortable getting down into and there was never an issue of someone else there at random(who he trusted) of course running his dog. Or someone getting ill last min and a family member stepping in. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Are you able to contact a previous HT Sec. and see if the issue has came up before?

The only eligibility issues with regard to handling dogs in hunting tests concerns the judges and their involvement with the dogs they judge. Any handler can handle anyone else's dog in any level of AKC HTs.

Page 5 of the current regs/guidelines covers the judging issue.

Thanks everybody! I had seen the part in the regs about the judges and family members, etc and since this was not the case I "assumed" it would not be a problem but just wanted a little input.

    Thanks again!!
