    Default Wanna go Pro.

I know that just about everyone that loves Labs, thinks at one time in their lives " hey.... I sure would like to train for a living." but, I have a question....
I want to get some feedback from others who have done it. I want to know how a person transiitions their lives into becoming a pro trainer from their 9 to 5 job. I have a good job. It pays the bills. But... I dont want to do this for the rest of my life.
I see myself training labs. Period.
My question to you is... How does a person transition from a 9 to 5 that I must have to pay my bills, and get to the profession that I really want?

    Just some thoughts... please.

    Default Going Pro

There is a post by Alec@Snowbound Kennels on "going Pro with Zero experience", Page 3 that catches most but not all of what you would experience.

I travelled with a pro to a couple of long distance FT's for the weekend. When the truck is full it's up at 430 Am & to bed at 1000 PM. This is when things run smooth. 1 Pro i know got his dogs into standing water from an earlier flood, a truck full of dogs with the drizzles can be a challenge. If you get to eat thats a bonus, it's all about dog care. Being a FT pro may look glamourous but it's only a life for the truly committed.

Good luck if you make the decision to give it a whirl, you'll need it. & if you are successful you'll be in pretty elite company!!

Gotta agree with Marvin on this one. It's a tough life.

Very few are still in their first marriage!!!

    Thoughts:
    1) careful what you wish for
    2) the dogs are easy part
3)what will do for hobby to get away from work?
    4) hope it works for you

Seems to me it's kinda like being a rock star, only different.

You're on the road many weekends a year showing what you've got.

The difference, not anywhere near the money.

I would suggest spending some REAL time with a pro...I could not imagine a job I would hate more...the dogs are great but I say training is maybe 50% of the job.
