Ken and Brenda trained Nellie, with the help of Alex Washburn, into her derby career. Nellie was their first attempt at a field trial retriever. They were total novices. They went to Alan to help them screw her down a littleOriginally Posted by Cut em_Jack
because she was very excited to work, to say the least. She actually spent at least her first summer or two on their boat in the bahamas. But then they got REALLY hooked and here they are today.
Great story, really. I'm sure Brenda will come on at some point when they float back down to earth to provide their first-hand details.
But the biggest irony is that when they called to get a puppy, they said "we'd like a middle of the road, kind of calm one" and Nellie WAS that puppy when she was in the litter. Very level-headed, intelligent, not as rambunctious as her littermates. Just a nice, easy puppy that loved to retrieve... Shortly after they got her home, she received the nickname "hot pants" and they wondered where their "calm" puppy was! LOL
It's a fun story. I hope Brenda comes on here and shares it...
But they have a lot to be proud of. They've worked really hard both on their own and with Alan.
