Does anyone know where to look to find folks that buy dogs to train them for drug dogs or S&R dogs. A friend has two that we think might do well at it.

threeoak....I run 2 of my dogs in SAR and just to be perfectly honest I don't know if there is a place like you are looking for. Most of the dogs are trained from scratch and "not" from long lines of other SAR dogs. There are facilities that train drug detection and SAR dogs but they have no problem finding candidates and usually raise their own. Although the training takes longer than retriever work and is more specialized it does not require the high degree of natural talent that retriever work does. As a matter of fact....the majority of working SAR dogs are common dogs with no working background (pedigree) and many are mixed breed. On the other hand, I'm sure you will be able to find an SAR team that would be willing to accept your pups as a donation. (that is the normal way an SAR dogs come into the team) You can post them for donation @

Being happy doesn't mean every thing's perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections!
The TSA program for breeding search/sniff dogs contacted me about breeding to my male a few years ago. The TSA puppy program at that time was located at a Air Force base in Florida if I remember correctly. But they do their own selection, they contacted me out of the blue. There is a page somewhere on the TSA website about it, if it still exists.
Once they breed, in my case buying frozen semen, they will not give you any info on the results. But, just by coincidence, a reporter from the Wall Street Journal contacted me. Turned out she was doing a story on these tsa pups and was following one of the cadets sired by my dog. What a thrill to see one of my own protecting the nation's airports.

Matt, at International Canine Exchange, (http://internationalcanineexchange.com/) has an excellent program. He has a strong client list, and deals with drug/sar dogs on a daily basis.
