It's great news, and all the more reason to question the timing of Rabies boosters. This Email came yesterday, with multiple links for questions hopefully answered.

You only need to read these 2 paragraphs to understand all you need to know, it only means your dog won't get exposed to rabies by another dog which also happens to be the least likely mode of transmission. Almost all domestic animal exposure is from wildlife carriers, the rabies virus is alive and well in wildlife reservoirs.Originally Posted by Ken Archer
"While dogs may still become infected from raccoons, skunks or bats, they will not catch dog-specific rabies from another dog, the Atlanta-based U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
"We don't want to misconstrue that rabies has been eliminated -- dog rabies virus has been," CDC rabies expert Dr. Charles Rupprecht told Reuters in a telephone interview
When I read that I was thinking to myself if you don't want to confuse people than why release the press release??Originally Posted by EdA
I'm all for recognizing peoples hard work. But, when it is done in such a matter that it creates confusion and could possibly lead some people to believe they no longer need to vaccinate for rabies it is detrimental.

it doesn't get much more unscientific than this, "presumed injection site of rabies vaccine"?????Originally Posted by moorelabs
since dogs are injected with many different things and there is no standard as to what is injected where this one phrase invalidates any conclusion drawn from the study, how could a legitimate investigator presume something central to the premise, it could have as easily been a presumed site for distemper immunization, antibiotic injection, or any other injectable product
