    Default I'm a little proud

My 9 month old lab has had a good season so far. He got to retrieve some dove in september, a couple mallards in our early season and a dozen or so pheasant on our SD trip. His total this week was 4 mallards, 1 teal (a blind of sorts), 1 ruddy duck and 2 geese.

But I thought these pics were particularly neat, his first ruddy duck and goose:

Thanks guys, it was a good couple days.

I'll never forget the teal retrieve. We've been working on 3 handed casting in the yard and it has been going really well. We shot a mallard and I was behind the blind getting it from the pup when the teal came in and someone shot it. I walked him around to the front and sent him. The wind and waves were carrying the bird away and he couldn't see it. When he got to the outer edge of the dekes it was clear that he didn't know where it was, I figured what the heck either try it or lose the bird. I called his name and he turned and looked, I gave him a loud right hand back. He took it, held the line for about 20 yards and went straight to the bird.

Probably not the best thing in the world from a training perspective but we got the bird, I'll never forget that retrieve and it impressed the hell out of my buddies in the blind.

No worries on the email Dave, I understand work. Thanks again for such a great pup. Now if you'll just repeat it in about 3 years when I'm ready for a second dog (wife won't let me have 2 until this one is older).
