The settlement states that owners of a dog that died as a result of eating the contaminated food could receive up to $1,000.

Our legal system recognizes dogs as "property." And as such their value never really measures up to reality. Even a pet mutt that has never won anything except its place as a member of a family, is worth much more than what judges (and juries) are allowed to award.

I am NOT advocating we change the system, as I fear it will give the AR whack-0s some argument.
