Obama responded that he cares about animal rights very much, "not only because I have a 9-year-old and 6-year-old who want a dog." He said he sponsored a bill to prevent horse slaughter in the Illinois state Senate and has been repeatedly endorsed by the Humane Society.

"I think how we treat our animals reflects how we treat each other," he said. "And it's very important that we have a president who is mindful of the cruelty that is perpetrated on animals."

I didn't dig any deeper into this to see if he has otherwise stated support for the HSUS, but I don't see it in this snippet. I DO see where he has been repeatedly endorsed by them and there is probably a reason, but there is nothing in his quote that I can find objectionable other than potentially the bill against horse slaughter and I'd have to see the details of that to make a real opinion.

To me, the fact that the HSUS has repeatedly supported him was enough to turn me against him. They don't come anywhere close to believing in the same things as I do.

I had no intentions of voting for him, but had I bumped my head at some point over the last 24 hours and had decided to vote for him that killed it. Like KG said an HSUS endorsement is not what our, or any, dog community should consider a good thing.
