Color Genes BLK X YLW=?

If the sire is YLW and from a predominant YLW pedigree and the Dam is BLK with only 1 YLW in 5 Gen Pedigree( Mostly BLK ) what are the expected outcomes. I assume if they come out BLK they will be BLK-Y or will a mixed BLK/YLW litter occur
anyone have the answer

Just from what you said, it is likely that they will all be yellow factored blacks. If the dam has the yellow gene, then the probability would be for 50% blacks and 50% yellows.

Thanks for the reference the outcome would be all BLK yellow factured.

My yellow female is out of a solid black pedigree, every dog in 4 generations is black. So don't be so quick to throw out the possibility of the yellow gene being present. Look for siblings to the parents or other offspring to see if there is yellow in there somewhere. After researching my pedigree, most of the dogs were yellow factored and had yellow siblings and offspring.

The best is do a VetGen to determine the recessive color on the dam.

I have a yellow who came from a 12 pup litter. 8 yellows and 4 blacks. Both parents were black, all 4 grand parents were black, and 6 of 8 great grand parents were black.

You have no way of knowing until you do a genetic color test. That will give you a clear picture of what is possible-but not necessarily what will happen. I learned that mother nature did not take statistics when the prediction was 75% Blk and 25% yellow but 60% yellow came out!
