Default Huge Entries and the DOW

I've been thinking about the DOW and large trials.

For those trials with entries greater than or equal to 100, using the DOW as currently written to determine the number of the starting dog does not give every dog an equal chance of running first.

If a stake has 100 or more dogs, the highest possible starting number is 99. Dogs with a number of 100 or greater are guaranteed not to be first in the running order.

An easy fix for this unfairness would be to use the last 3 digits of the DOW when entries are 100 or greater.

The problem with the Dow and which dog starts is the LEAST of the problems with a entry over 100.

There is no possible way that the test is the same for the first 20 dogs as the last 20 dogs.

The same thing can be said for a trial with 60 dogs.

The conditions at 8am and 3pm are different regards,

Thats where the expression "luck of the draw" comes in.
What' s not fair is when people start playing hide and seek, and
are not where they are supposed to be.

So with the current DJIA, 12337.22, # 722 would start first???

If there were that many dogs entered...yes

Otherwise, subtract the number entered from the DOW until getting down to a number that works...similar to what is done now if the DOW exceeds the number entered.

Yes you are definetly right about that, but I'd rather run at 8:00 AM as opposed to 8:00 PM. and that happens on a regular basis. Where it never used to.

Allowing the use of the last 3 digits would be an acknowledgement that SOR recognizes this is happening. Though based on their past record this would be the type of fix they would place to cure the total issue.

Let's get something in place that makes sure that a triple digit Dow & triple digit entries are an issue that no longer happens.
