Miss Debbie and I plan to move to our training grounds soon, and we need to build an efficient kennel that will hold about 16 dogs. My goal is to build something that will be functional, convenient, safe, clean, and time efficient.
For starters, we plan to build a small office with a restroom in the building. The runs will not be completely enclosed. I currently have Priefert kennels and intend to use the ones on hand. I would like a means to physically separate each run to help prevent cross contamination when cleaning kennels. A septic system will be installed with some type of trap before the effluent goes into the field lines. (Anyone have details on such a trap that has worked well?) Fans will be used to circulate air in hot weather. I’m also considering misters. Anyone know of any particular misters that work well?
I’m looking for ideas - facility configuration, dog houses, airing fence arrangements, anything that will make for an efficient operation. What would you include, change, or omit if you could build again?
Thanks,
Frank
