Default Cut Tongue- What to do?

My dog has a cut on the side of his tongue that is almost 1/4 inch long. Will it get worse? Or will such cuts heal on their own and not progress?

Should heal on it's on. If you are worried take to the vet and they may can stitch it.

Stitches rarely hold in a tongue. It will heal, but I would take my dog to the vet to get some antibiotics to insure that you don't end up with an infection.
When it stops being fun, I will find something else to do with my time and money.

My dog caught her tongue on a barbed wire fence last fall and it healed well on its own. She just pulled her tongue off the barb and boy did it bleed. Worried me, but by the time we got back to the truck it had just about stopped bleeding.

My dog came back with blood on her mouth last year after ret. a bumper. Checked and it was her tongue. I guess she bit it or something, no wire, etc. to cut it on. I just washed it with water and let it bleed to clean itself. She did fine, no vet, no anti bio., etc.

My 13 month old CLF had a similar cut on her tounge when I got her so I have no idea how it happened. It's never been a problem for her. You asked if it would get worse, it hasn't for my pup. Just kind of grew with her.

    Should be fine.

Same thing happened yesterday to my Sadie, except that it was on the side of her lower lip. I washed it off with water in the field, then used MalAcetic wipes on it when we got home and then again today. It looks like it's healing fine, but I'm keeping an eye on it for any signs of infection.

You know, I heard that dogs have a natural anti bio. in their saliva. If that is true, maybe that is why we haven't had anyone give us a horror story about an infected tongue, etc.
