How many have seen the new Retriever News. A nice glossy photo of the high point derby Hawkeye's Sea Wolf. I don't miss the hard to handle old format. Now what if we ordered covers for the large format?

It may be a case of you can't teach an old dog a new trick..But I miss the old one. I'm sure it will grow on me. It just feels too small and the page lay out looks too small. I do like the glossy pic's. I hope the price doesn't double to pay for all the fancy color, ect.

RFTN was the Retriever Field Trial News. Now the periodical is named Retriever News. The sport of retriever field trials has evolved from Liscensed and Sanctioned Trials to include everyone who has a retriever and wants a ribbon. While the metamorphisis occures we also have lots of new people and while they may be interested in who went to xxx trial and whoopee whoopee Sara got called back in the xxx derby and good ole Tom finally became Qualified All Age after 8 years they have no conception of what it takes-dedication, sacrifice of time and money and emotion to train a Field Champion. Thus we see the publication broadening it's audience and soon I predict it will have articles similar to The Retriever Journal. I will continue to subscribe because I want to find out who died and which dogs died.
At least the new format still has obituaries. Have not received mine yet.
"Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men." Sir Winston Churchill 1899, The River War.
Your choice. I prefer to subscribe to see who's been winning and where and against who. I will admit 100% that I am a newbie when it comes to the FT game. I thoroughly enjoy seeing the trial results and ads and I look very forward to having my and my dog's name appear in there much sooner than the obits.

I have not received mine yet. Cannot wait to see the new format, among other things.
"Something always dies when the lion feeds -- and yet there is meat for those that follow him." Wilbur Smith
I beg to differ. While some newbies certainly don't understand the dedication and work required to produce an FC when they first begin the journey into training a retriever, some stick with it and develop into some of the great young trainers we have today. Everyone, whether it be a newbie derby dog handler or a handler at the Nationals, deserves recognition of their accomplishments no matter how small or great the feat.

"During my lifetime most of the problems the world has faced have come, in one fashion or other, from mainland Europe, and the solutions from outside it."
Margaret Thatcher
I received mine yesterday, and even though it seemed strange initially, I like the new concept. It'll take a little gettin' used to though.
