New Place?

I took my BLM to train this morning to a place he has never been before. I ran him on two sets of blinds,3 bumpers in each pile, both at 100+ yards. The first trips to each pile I never had to handle him, he took a straight line and stayed on it right to the pile. The fourth trip to the second pile he decides he wants to do his own thing. I handle him, he gets to the pile. I thought OK maybe he caught wind of something that appealed to him. Back to the first pile, he does the same thing and then I start getting cast refusals and I VERY RARELY get a cast refusal from him.

Why would he start running all over the place on the confindence blinds after knowing where the pile is? Could it be that it was a new place he wasn't familiar with and wanted to check things out? He has never done this before and it made me extremely frustrated?

My advice, quit running the blind over. I would prefer to setup 3 separate sets of blinds. Rerunning blinds rarely is beneficial, does not build confidence and often times degrades into this behavior. Run them once and be happy with the success.

My thinking as well, sounds like it was affecting your dog's attitude also.

I would think that on the fourth trip to a blind that originally had three bumpers you'd be sending him on a wild goose chase.

Am not sure if you are pulling his chain...
but there would have been 2 bumpers left if he had sent the dog to pile one, then pile two, then pile one again - and the fourth trip would have been pile two..but that is only IF he was alternating between piles.....
