puppy question?

My brothers bitch had her first litter yesterday. Both dam and sire have great pedigree's (I have posted them before). Anyway, I am getting pick of the litter when they are ready.

My question is
1. Bitch is only 48lbs. She only had 4 pups 2 male / 1 female/ 1 dead at birth. Does this seem normal?

2. When should I pick up the pup? 49 days?

3. Male or female? I have 2 female GSP's and have always had females, but was thinking male for a change. Plan on doing FT's. Maybe some HT's, but want to focus on FT.

4. Was curious what others do to pick a pup. Always open to ideas.

well if you want a girl it will be easy.
If you want a boy take the one on the right.
