I don't care if there is a shortage or surplus of oil in the World. It is a monopolistic resourse. You have to have it. That is the real issue. Until there is viable alternatives to consumers, the resourse will act as a monopoly. Until there is competition, the economy runs at a severe inefficiency. Even with govt. intervention, there will always be negative affects. It's basic economics folks. Supply and demand, doesn't get any more simple than that. With govt. intervention, creates deadweight loss. Both consumers and producers lose, typically consumers lose more.
