I don't think so. I think you need a Junior handler certification form. I'm a hunt test chairman and I recieved a bunch of these. The hunt test secretary should have them. Just e-mail the secretary/chairman and give them a "heads up", that you will need them for the event you are attending.

My understanding is he will need the junior handler certificate but will also need the AKC junior handler number on that form. I emailed AKC and they got me to the right person to get his handler number and when they sent me the number they also sent me copies of the junior handler certificate to use when he runs.

My daughter started running junior tests this year. When I checked with AKC about being able to do this they had me submit a form requesting a junior handler number. The number goes on the form thats been mentioned and the judges submit that with their judges books after the event.

Am I reading the Junior handler rules correctly?

I read it to say that the dog must be owned or co owned by the junior, or one of his immediate family. Is this correct?

I was basing my question on this document:

Junior Showmanship

Conformation
Junior Showmanship
Regulations, Guidelines

Conformation, Juniors
in Performance Event
Regulations

A Guide To
Performance and Companion Events Competition
for Juniors

Section 1. Eligibility as a Junior. Any Junior who
is at least 9 years old and under 18 years old on the day
of the show is eligible to compete as a Junior in
Performance Events. The Junior must obtain a Junior
Number prior to the day of the event. The ownership
requirement is the same as for participating in
Conformation Junior Showmanship: the dog must be
owned or co-owned by the Junior Handler or the Junior
Handler’s father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt,
grandfather, or grandmother, including corresponding
step and half relations, or by a permanent member of

the Junior Handler’s household.

Now I see that there is a Revision:

Revisions to the
Conformation Junior Showmanship Regulations,
Guidelines for Judging Juniors in Conformation,
Juniors in Performance Events Regulations

Effective March 2008

This insert is issued as a supplement to the
Conformation Junior Showmanship Regulations,
Guidelines for Judging Juniors in Conformation,
Juniors in Performance Events Regulations
Amended to October 2007.

Does this mean that the below section no longer applies to performance and companion events? Or just that the lower limit of 9 has been removed?

I read that too. But I think that is if a Junior is competeing against another Junior. But in a hutn test they are competeting against the standard.

I guess it is time to email AKC....

I know that I am resurecting a thread from 2008, but I am looking for some current information here. The AKC site is a navigational nightmare and all the links in this thread are not functioning. Does anyone have any current information about some of the requirements that were brought up in this thread?

Any help would be apreciated

Thanks

Nick get a number for your daughter. Knowing you she'll be the youngest handler running dogs and the only junior running big bad Chessies.

#20 ·
5 more years she will be on the line.
She says now Im the dogs boss and she plays that roll. That is how I get her to daycare in the mourning she climbs up in my trucks and call the dogs and put them in the kennel. Then she calls her car seat her kennel.

Does any clubs have reduced rates for junior handlers for test or trials. My nephews want to run my dogs in junior but the $70 entry fee is a little much.

Here's thecurrent link: http://classic.akc.org/kids_juniors/performance.cfm

Here in Connecticut, Shoreline Retriever Club and Southern Berkshire Golden Retriever Club offer refund checks to junior handlers the day of the event for hunt tests. Yankee Waterfowlers’ Hunting Retriever Club offers discounted entry fees for junior handlers as well, but I don’t know if it’s an outright discount at time of entry, or a refund issued on the day of the event.

I don't know if we should encourage Nick. I can just see it Nick, nephews, daughters and dogs. Woow. And Nick having no control of anyone.
