O/H Amateur Handler Derby Championship

While building the database for ftretrieverjudge,.net the need for something added to the present mix became apparent. It would be simple to add:

Use the present rules except:

1) Amateurs only would be eligible.

2) Owner/Handlers would be restricted to immediate family as defined by Chapter 14, Section 2, paragraph 4.

I am not talking about a separate stake - just recognition for those handlers who do their own work & consider their dog a family member.

Would handlers who keep their dogs in outside kennels run qualify?

How would you prove the percentage of time they stay outside vs being inside like a family member? Would a certain amount of time in a kennel run be acceptable, but only under special circumstances? What if the dog spent time inside while running Derby, but was relegated to an outside run once it aged out? Would the championship be rescinded or do they only have to be considered a family member while running Derby?

My dogs have outside quarters - they seem to prefer that arrangement - Other than our old heeler who will come in during the winter for a couple of hours & lay on the rug in front of the door. The labs will come in explore things but after a short time like the freedom & association of being outdoors, better smells??? Their kennel is also right outside our bedroom window so they have the reassurance of me snoring through the night.

A lot of people don't have the wherewithal to afford help so go it alone. It would be nice to encourage those people to participate - many time they turn out to be very good workers.
