Default Dow down another 700pts GDG

My sister visited this weekend and her husband is a small electrical contractor with 5 employees. A couple companys that he did business with went under owing him money now he can't meet payroll without borrowing. They are in the range where if taxes are raised they also might go under. More small business failures, job loses.

Read how Hoover and Roosevelt raised taxes and the combination of the dry weather ruined the economy. Read The Forgotten Man , with the correct work Bernanke and others can fix the economy. Unlike 1929 which didn't recover till after WWII.

I think many people perhaps do not realize that WWII really was responsible for bringing our economy back to recovery from the depression, but Roosevelt did give many people some hope--and my late father told me he really appreciated and needed the $25 a month he received for working in a Civilian Conservation Corps camp in the SoDak Black Hills!

It's interesting that you use the WW II analogy, I have said the same thing. That & the REA really brought SD back to life. There was also a CCC camp by Chamberlain, SD that accomplished many good things. In those days 3 squares, a warm bed & a roof over your head were a big deal, a little extra money was a real bonus. & $25 was a lot of money with things like gas @ 7 gallons for a $1.

Many of the smaller farmers went to the West Coast & worked in the factories. Being the thrifty people they were they paid off their farm loans & came back with real dollars in their pockets, & in some cases additional useful skills.

I remember those times well & must say would prefer them to what I see today. Other than I do like the modern conveniences for the ladies, many of whom really worked hard to keep up their end in those days.

Unfortunately, FDR started us on the slippery slope of pandering which is going to eventually put us in the same class as the Europeans. Few realize the value & self esteem today that go hand in hand with being able to fend for themselves & perform an honest days effort.

It sure is a good thing that our elected officials passed this bailout plan to prevent the world economy from imploding. Things are just going swimmingly, aren't they? It pains me to watch our country continue to march down the road to socialism, led by elected officials from both major parties. I guess we get the government we deserve.
