Mine is the Pit and the Pendulum with Vincent Price. Still makes me shudder and I have not seen it for 30 years.

Just for the record I have very fine dogs. Some of the best in the whole country....or at least on my own block anyhow.

Scariest movie I ever saw was "Psycho". Made a lasting impression on me. I still hate having a shower curtain instead of glass shower doors.

The reason the movie that is a take off from "The Ring" is so disturbing is how it ends. I would explain the ending but that would ruin the movie. It is disturbing on a gut level and toys with your feelings.
My favorite horror movies from the past would include "Salems Lot". Having your best friend circling in smoke asking to come in is spooky. The head vampire with the bald head was out of this world.
I enjoyed all four of the "Saw" movies. They aren't just slasher movies. They have some suspense and intrigue to them.
Children of the Corn. Just the first one though. Having grown up in Nebraska (it was filmed there too) it always freaked me out a little having to be around so many corn fields, especially when the corn would move like there was a breeze blowing, but it wasn't!
I have always liked horror movies that could possibly happen, all the others are just almost comical. Another good one is Pet Semetary. My son is named after the little boy in that movie.
That long running movie on TV: 'Election 08"
It brings out the worst in the people who watch it.
I believe initial introduction 'pinch to open' FF doctrine is as progressive as shooting a dog with bird shot to get it to sit on a whistle. AS

Hands down there is no better scary movie than House of a 1000 corpses. It is scary, sick, demented, very disturbing, and at the same time a little funny. I am no fan of Rob Zombies music, but after watching this you will understand that he is a genius. I watch this at least once a year and I am not a movie kind of guy.
