Training is not science, it is art. A blend of this, a measure of that, a deep breath at the appropriate moment and always a loving touch.
Some people are like Slinkies.. Not really good for anything..
But they still bring a smile to your face when you think about pushing them down a flight of stairs.
Nice interview Howard and congratulations on making it to the 4th series of the National. I know you were proud as you should be.

Everybody Loves Howard! Great interview! Thanks for sharing.![]()

Yep, that was a pretty sweet video!
Just got off the phone with him. He says he is looking forward to coming home and training his yellow pup! (He is gonna have to retrain her to stay off of beds and couches) LOL. Said he has been having fun watching the big dogs run, and that this has been a great experience. Guess I should go shovel his driveway so it looks like I have been taking good care of his house!![]()

Howard,
I am a "why" person, so may I ask, "why" a no hands/cast on the water blind?
Field trial labradors, the wind beneath my wings,
sometimes poop under my boots.
Bam was getting in the water fat. It looked like she was going to jump over the boat. I stopped her before she could just in front of the boat. I thought if I gave a left back she might think she was supposed to stay on land. I felt with a no hands back she'd run around the left end of the boat (which she did) and may get in the water on her own further down the shore (she didn't). You know how it is, they always overcast when told to stay on land.
In short, I thought the no hand back would influence her to be more watery and a hand saying to stay on the shoreline would influence her to stay on land more. Don't know if it worked or not but she got in the water the next cast with no problems. Probably would have been the same if I'd used a left straight back cast but who knows?
Also note the head bob left to get her to turn left.
