Yesterday Nellie was diagnosed with a nasal carcinoma cancer. We were very, very fortunate to have found it early. Nellie is in Houston at the Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialty Center, she will be going thru radiation treatments 5 days a week for the next 4 weeks. Outlook looks good because we did catch this cancer before it had affected any bone, her eyes or brain. Our goal is to shrink the tumor by 50% and that should extend Nellie's life by 1 1/2 to 2 years. She should not lose her sense of smell so if she is still healthy and feels good enough she may still be able to compete.
The week before the National Nellie was acting just fine except that she was snorting a little more then normal especially at night....we had just thought maybe she had something in her nose bothering her or it was allergies from being in a different area. The week of the National Nellie started to have a mucous discharge from her left nostril and we knew that was not normal and really began to get concerned that she had something in her nose. We had Mary Tatum look at her and she had told us it could be a infection or it could be much worse. After Nellie went out in the 8th series we had Mary Tatum do a X-ray and really give her nose a good look and she reported to us that she had a mass in her left nostril. At this point we were still hoping it was some kind of fungus infection but after we got the CT report back on Monday there was no doubt that it was cancer.
Please say a prayer for Nellie that she gets through all this radiation treatment without any problems ..........we love her dearly....Thank you Brenda & Kenny
