    Default Deliverance Revisited!

Ok, there have been several threads lately about abominable behaviour from male labs. When we went home for Thanksgiving, my dog embarrassed the crap out of me! He has never been aggressive with other dogs, is fine running loose with them or training. But my sister in law has a neutered male (Brit dog) that Indy decided was his "bitch"

When I was in the yard with them and he would start, I'd say "no" and he would stop. I went in the house to help with the food and such, and next thing I know all the nieces and nephews are hootin' and hollerin" "Indy's Gay"! He wasn't just humping, he was really serious about it. I stopped him, but every time I would leave, right back at it. He has never done this with our pup or any other dog. Why this one and why right in front of the whole world?!?!?!?!

    Weird threads lately, huh?

Indy probably isn't gay but he probably decided is dominate over neutered Brit dogs

Watch him with your pup, and be prepared to give him a serious rolling if he tries the same crap with the chessie. You don't need 2 full grown males fighting it out for an Alpha position at your house.

How old are your neices and nephews?

The kids are from 8 years old, (twin girls) to 18 year old nephew who has just been accepted to the navy Seal program. Indy entertained all of them! So far no problem with the pup, just lots of sniffing, both sides about equal.

I was told by an "old" town vet that the odor or hormones that a nuetered male gives off is much like that of a female nearing heat. On the flip side, a spayed female no longer has as much estrogen in her system (due to complete removal of repo organs) but her other glands produce testosterone which can be the reason some spayed females show aggression to intact male dogs and vice versa. May not be completely correct, but it would make sense of the "problem".

Darn, I thought this was going to be a discussion about the movie Deliverance. Like the awards it won and the location it was shot in and the real life lake in SC that was formed when a river became a lake. What a great film. The moral debate about murder and the need to cover it up to keep the rape a secret. I actually remember trying to learn dueling banjo's with a friend of mine and a music teacher back in when was it 75 or so? Such a simple song really but the tempo and finger speed required.... wow!
anyway Indy has always had a lipstick issue hasn't he?

It's ok Carol, our neutered yellow male thinks he can reproduce with Kiela, even though she's not in heat lol. But then again Kiela just humps every new person who comes in the house...sigh.

    Ken Bora....You are tooooo funny.

Anyway, I have one of those dogs, but he only bothers my older female, but of course she is his mother!!!!! I should just tape the statement "Get off of Her" and play it non stop. I even know when he is pestering her when I am in another room.....nothing else sounds like that! The funny thing is I have three other intact males in the house, and if they try anything, she snaps at them. I don't know why it is okay for him but not for anyone else. Maybe she knows he isn't serious???? Anyway, in my house the ecollar is my friend!

Ken, I thought the same thing! Especially since I live on Lake Hartwell (the "Deliverance" lake -the lake that was formed when the river became a lake....which lake, incidentally, since the drought, is practically nonexistent and they are now saying we will "lose" in 360 days).

Our boy *constantly* wants to hump our spayed pet-bred girl (she actually works quite well as a "teaser bitch" when we have to ship semen to another state/country)...and chews on her ears causing hot spots on the sides of her face- she won't do a thing to prevent it! We ended up training her to "sit" anytime he tries to mount her, and he slides right off. It worked out very well, especially since he's a big boy and with her elbow dysplasia and hip dysplasia, she definitely didn't need him pounding on her from above! He gets pretty frustrated, though.
