    Default New Man

I'm new to this site and just wanted to give a little info on myself. I've grown up with labs and have done some hunting with them. Trained them on my own but not as in depth as many of you have. I hope to buy a lab pup sometime in May and am looking forward to training and doing some possible hunt test. I'm looking for a good breeder in the area of PA, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia or North Carolina. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome. You've come to the right place. There's lots of good info in RTF.

    Hi welcome.

It might help us out on suggestions if we knew more specifically where you are located, at least the state.

Then we will overload your memory card.

I think you can get some good suggestions by going to the NAHRA website and doing a search of the clubs in PA. I know there used to be at least two clubs up there, with one having Field Tests in the York area. There are also several clubs in northern VA. By contacting them they can put you in touch with members that may be able to help you out.

There are a good number of breeders that post on this board. I don't know all of them so in order to not slight those that I don't know, I will not name those that I am familiar with.

Because your lead time is good, you do have time to track down some breeders and look at parents, maybe even running in some hunt tests. Watch them train, etc.

    Good Luck.

Well, you live almost next door to some of the worst breeders in the country. The Keystone Retriever Club (http://www.keystoneretrieverclub.org/) and the Susquehanna Retriever Club (http://www.susquehannaretriever.com/) are both active in your area. These are both AKC hunt test clubs. You are also in easy driving distance of a number of other clubs including, South Jersey, Swamp Dog, Del-Bay, and Shrewsbury River that are primarily oriented to AKC field trials. There are many quality breeders in the area including many that post litters on this forum.
