I Need Computer HELP Please! gdg

First off, I am not a computer whiz and I now have a huge problem. Last night I tried to install a new version of Norton 360 on my computer. It un-installed all the Norton stuff on my computer and then would not install the new version. I talked with symantec support and we got it started but the installation failed twice. Now my computer is only on occassion even recognizing that the CD is in the computer. Is my computer dying or can this be fixed?

Is there someway to re-set the computer back to before where I lost all my anti-virus stuff?

Maybe to you computer savy people this is no big deal, but I am freaking out a little bit about this! I am at work so I can't try anything til I get home this afternoon but any help as to what I need to do to get Norton back onto my computer would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have windows XP because there is a restore point on there? I gave up on Norton and use free AVG and it works great. Maybe your CD rom is going-mine had to be cleaned out.

yes I have Windows XP. How do I go about finding where I do the restore point thing? I had tried looking at the control panel last night and did not have a clue where I needed to be.

Click on the following:
Start=>All Programs=>Accessories=>System Tools=>System Restore

Go to Start, Click on All Programs, Click on Accessories, Click on Systems Tools, Click on System Restore.. Choose your restore date.

If you are having problems reading the CD, you may also want to try to copy its contents to your hard drive and then install from the hard drive.

I had a similar problem recently when the puter was doing automatic updates... it would fail to install.
I reformatted XP, tried again and the updates failed.
As it turned out the hard drive was failing, I had it replaced before it completely failed and the tech was able to transfer most of the info to the new drive.

You may want to take some canned air and blow out the CD drive. Also, if you just have a CD, it may be time for a new computer.

I had a similar problem with Norton's a few years ago, and could not get help from there custom service, I switched to zone alarm.
