Default Voluntary recall of dog biscuits

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Red Bay, Alabama, April 5, 2007 -- As a precautionary measure, Sunshine Mills, Inc. ("Sunshine"), a branded and private-label pet food manufacturer based in Red Bay, Alabama, is voluntarily recalling a portion of its branded dog biscuits made at its Red Bay, Alabama biscuit plant during part of March 2007. These brands include: Nurture Chicken & Rice, Nurture Lamb & Rice, Pet Life Large, Pet Life Extra Large, Pet Life Large Variety, Pet Life Large Peanut Butter, Lassie Lamb and Rice, and Pet Life People Pleasers Dog Treats. Private label biscuits for six of Sunshine's customers were also affected. A complete list of affected biscuit brands, sizes, and codes is available below or at our website, www.sunshinemills.com. Sunshine's other biscuit brands and products that include small and medium sized biscuits were not affected. It is also important to note that dry dog and cat food and soft and chewy treats for dogs or cats manufactured by Sunshine are not affected and not included in this recall.

Wow! Thanks very much for the update.

I was in Farm & Fleet the other day, and 40 oz of People Pleaser's on sale caught my eye. I bought two.....they are on the list of recalls......several, silent expletives were the result.

There is a possible melamine contamination in the wheat gluten.

There is not always a good reason for being "on sale" regards, Jim

Any reason why this is coming out now when it's dated almost two years ago?

I just noticed the FDA "release" requested by the manufacturer was dated out of Red Bay, Alabama, April 5, 2007. Good question!

I don't know. I saw the story on the news yesterday. The newsperson was talking about dog biscuits being recalled and that many were being sold locally at Petsmart. When I checked the link to their story, what I posted came up. Perhaps they posted the wrong notice.

Here is the latest story on the Baltimore news tv station website:

    Last Update: 1/21 9:45 am
    (Getty Images/file)

WASHINGTON - The salmonella contamination of peanut butter is now forcing a recall on treats for our pets.

PetSmart is voluntarily recalling seven of its Grreat Choice Dog Biscuit products that contain peanut paste made by Peanut Corporation of America.

PetSmart isn't aware of any illnesses related to these products. The chain has removed the products from their store shelves and are issuing the recall as a precautionary measure.

The recall includes the following types of biscuits:

Small Assorted 32 oz., UPC 73725702900
    Small/Medium Assorted 4 lb., UPC 73725700601
    Small/Medium Assorted 8 lb., UPC 73725700605
    Small/Medium Assorted 10 lb., UPC 73725702755
Large Assorted 8 lb., UPC 73725700638
Extra Large Assorted 8 lb., UPC 73725700779
Peanut Butter 4 lb., UPC 73725700766
The biscuits were sold between August 21, 2008 and January 19, 2009.

Customers who purchased the recalled dog biscuits are urged to stop giving them to their pets and return the product to any PetSmart store for a refund or exchange. Peanut Corporation of America is the focus of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration into potential salmonella contaminution of peanut butter and paste.

    Bev,

Glad the information was useful to you. I understand that the recall is just precautionary, but I wouldn't want to take a chance!

Years ago the bird dog and coon hound folks fed Sunshine. It was always said that there were more dog farts in a sack of Sunshine than any other dog food. LOL
