I do- when I lived in Fai 74-98 i had a team and raced in Yukon Quest 86 & 88 and trained a team for novice racer in 88( Far more profitable and fun than actually racing) and vicariously raced Iditarod as Joe Runyan had one of my dogs and sleds in his winning team in 89 and Doug Swingley use my sleeping bag his first time out-
Joe sold me my first racing dogs and my others came from Yukon/Tanana River villages. We trained together for a number of years and had a Mushers catalog business for a few also. Training/racing sled dogs is what i miss most about AK BUT not the daily clean up and feed bills 365 days a year-
I always root for Rick Swenson these days as he is stil going when most of the old timers have retired-I know he's not the most conginial guy but we got along ok.
BTW the Yukon Quest- Whitehorse, YT to Fai., AK is in home stretch as i type this post.

Another good read is "The Cruelist Miles" an in depth history of Nome the race against the Epidemic-history of long distance sled dogs and the mushers and their super lead dogs-very humbling for a outside guy- enjoy! IDITROD begins next week!!

Sounds like a good book. Thanks for the recommendation.

Never ceases to amaze me- different dog breeds. Sled dogs pull, for what? Pack drive/motivation - their reward. Awesome.
Field trial labradors, the wind beneath my wings,

    sometimes poop under my boots.
