Okay, I am in the market, looking for a about a 36-42 incher. What should I look for, what brands should I stay away from and what are good value. Is the BestBuy store brand any good, what about Vizio from Wal-Mart?

I heard that 1080p is what I need, not 720p, is there a big difference. I am just a poor ignorant white boy.

We have a 40" Samsung that we are happy with. I did some research and Samsung TV's were towards the top. I have also heard and read that Vizio is a good buy and decent quality for the money.

We now own a Sony 40" Z series. Love it. LCD and a 120 refresh rate.

I would look at the 3 S's. Sony, Samsung and Sharp in that order. Go as high dpi as you can afford. The broadcst standard is going up in a year or so and it is noticable on DVD's esp Blue-Ray. Samsung makes the LCD panels for Sony so the pic quality is there but a few bells and whistles are not.
The Best Buy store brand is made by Sony but I do not know how dumbed down they are. Some great deals are available on last year models of 1080 sets.

I just bought the 40" samsung also. Like all the reviews say on Best Buy's website, the sound quality is a little poor. From the research I did, Samsung, Sony, and LG are the top 3, although there is different opinions on the order. I now have a surround sound system with mine, and I love it. I have been going back and rewatching all the good action movies from the last year, WOW!

After having a nightmare experience at a mega electronic store I took a friends advise and started buying flat screens from Sam’s Club…I just go in and find the picture I think is good and size screen I want and buy it…had one small flat screen develop a line in the screen so I took it back and they gave me a new TV and I was back in business. In today’s world of electronics there is less difference in TVs than there was 20 years ago.

We have two, a Sony 480 Bravio 42 inch and a JVC 1080 42 inch both are hooked up to direct TV HD both had such great pictures the HD didnt improve them that much.We bought the Sony from Best Buy and the other from our Marine base. Haven't had any problems with either one.

We recently purchased the Vizio 42" with the 120 refresh rate from Costco. We are very pleased with the picture qualilty and the price was less than the 3 S's

sonys you are paying for the name they are generally over priced samsung and sharps seem to be about right for the money....vizio's are also over priced. Don't get me wrong they are a great TV but when you can buy a samsung for 300+ less for the same quality you know they are over priced

Four at the house, one in the RV and two at the office....one can't be to far from business news now days
