Default Confusion about the DOW this week

Our system pulled 7,660.21 as the DJIA closing for yesterday. Yahoo finance shows the same, our competition shows the same. We have received a couple calls suggesting that the DJIA closed yesterday with 7659.97, the last caller has plans of reporting us to the AKC for listing an inaccurate number.

Yahoo, CNN, MSNBC, all agree with EE (i think they check EE before posting the close on their sites).

As far as i can tell, the number we posted with the DOW ending in 21 for this week is accurate.

Some folks may have looked at a site that tracks the DOW, but failed to account for the fact that the DOW is usually 15-20 minutes delayed on most free sites such as Yahoo, CNN, CNBC, etc.

The sites all show the previous close as 7660.21. You are correct.

    Report you?

    ...really?

That's like a signed confession that one has way too much time on one's hands.

Hey, I like it ending in .97 better for this weekend. Don't have to leave quite so early Friday.

However, I think .21 is correct.

You know some people have way too much time on their hands - it isn't up to EE to determine the DOW and enforce the DOW rotation - it is up to the event holding club to ensure the rotation is accurate....just because EE provides an extra step beyond what is required that person needs to go pound sand and get their undies fixed!

pardon my ignorance, but why is the DOW an important number on these sites.

I understand the dow, but don't see the connection.

In field trials the DOW closing on Tuesday (last 2 digits) is the starting dog number for the Major Stakes for trials being held that weekend.

The Dow is used to set the running order in the trials.

Important to add, this is by rule, not by fashion.

Shayne, have you got it worked out? I went to 2 sights. Both of them said yesterday's closing number ended in 21. But, on both sights, if I worked back from the current number + or - their reported change from yesterday I got the starting number as 97.

There's some funny numbers in the system somewhere.

You really gotta be careful about how high a pedestal you put your method, your accomplishments, your dog on. There's usually someone who's done more, somewhere. And they may have used a different method than you did! Chris Atkinson 2013
