I hate moving, but....

I love my new place.

After almost five years of living next to the crazy neighbors from hell (the stories I could tell...no need to watch reality shows on TV when all I had to do was look out the window), I finally found the perfect place and just finished moving. 30 peaceful acres, and I'm the only driveway on a two mile stretch of dirt road, plus I'm right in the heart of the state Prairie Chicken grounds, so have wild birds to train on. The township is glad to have me (permits were no problem), the closest neighbors are 1) very nice and 2) have a bunch of dogs of their own, plus 3) are a third of a mile away.

Next project: concrete and fencing. Then the pond. ::::sigh:::: I'll be broke, but happy.

Prairie Chicken are great neighbors...they really put on a great display in the spring...but don’t hunt them...we refer to them as carp of the prairie. Nastiest tasting bird on God’s green earth.

Patrick, you mean they're the mud ducks of the upland world? It's a sure thing I won't hunt 'em....not allowed. Fortunately, we can train on all the grounds (when nesting is over). But it'll still be nice to run the pointing dogs there (and the upland retrievers). Not too many places left where one can train on so many wild birds. The prairie chicken thing is kind of a big deal out here...they just had a Prairie Chicken Festival where the public can sit in blinds and watch the displays, and all sorts of educational stuff. Plus, the National Prairie Chicken Championships for pointing dogs are held here in the fall.
