Where do we go without great leaders for the defense of our liberties? Who will defend our right to live our lives _as we chose_ without others taking that from us? The answer is, as it should be, no one. We are the defense of our rights and should always remember that. Libertarian blogger
He is gorgeous, and big! He looks so serious. Did Howard breed his litter? Who are his parents? Yes, I MUST know lol.
He does remind me a little of my tank tho I know they're not related. Mine is 46.6lbs at 22 weeks.

Tank is a handsome boy!
Howard use to own his grandam, so I refer to Howard as one of his grands.
He is FC AFC Wood River Franchise to a MH bitch from Minnesota.
As much bad luck as I've had with hips, I had his hips and elbows prelimed last week by the Vet that does Penn Hip. He said they look as good as they can look at 5 months! I had him CERFed at 15 weeks as well as his clearence for PRA. His sire and dam are both CNM & EIC clear so, I'm just hoping he can mark!
I'm doing the pre-basics mostly using Dobbs material. I have him sit holding a bumper for two minutes. Walking at heel on lead holding a bumper and doing simple casting, overs and backs. He goes to his trainer at 6 months.
I just took this photo 15 minuts ago...

I should have named him Tank but he's actually Skeet, or as I often call him, Bubba lol.
You guys are a lot farther along in training than we are! Kiela is almost two and getting into all the nitty gritty of casting, blinds, and hopefully swim-by soon so sadly she's getting most of the attention. Skeet has a nice natural tendency to hold but doesn't like to return with the bumper so we've mostly been doing OB right now. He does retrieve well in water and has to return so we do that some too. He has one canine left to lose then hopefully FF so we can get moving. I think FF is going to be a breeze with him. He is doing some CC to here also. He gets to watch Kiela work a lot and that gets him going, but he's learned to be quiet at least! He's EIC clear as well, will probably do PennHips when Kiela gets hers done as my vet does that also. I'm very impressed with how evenly he's growing though.
Cute picture! I see that he does the sloppy sit too! Seems the bigger they are the more they do it, we've been working on that too.
That's cool he is totally field bred then. My guy is part show. You'll have to keep me updated on how he progresses, he is very nice. Guess I should get out and work my own huh? lol.
Thanks for the info and pics, again, he's gorgeous.

When I have him sitting on that platform for a few minutes, he will revert to a lazy sit. The emphasis is on hold and sit so, I don't correct him for the lazy sit. On marks though, I don't allow a lazy sit.
I like to teach hold before they start teething. I do it on that little platform starting with my gloved fingers, then progressing to a bumper. With a highly excitable dog, I like to be very calm, deliberate and slow. I teach them sit on the platform and gradually get him use to placing fingers, then bumpers in mouth. This is where I also teach the drop command. They get real comfortable on the platform, then I start casting from platform to platform with bumper in mouth. It makes the transition to a plastic matt that much smoother and they already know how to cast holding a bumper. They can't leave a plastic matt until released which is the beginning of the steadying process.
Good luck with your pup!
P S I use all kinds of goofy nicknames for my dogs.

Fortunately Skeet balances Kiela out in that he is really mellow for the most part. I started encouraging a hold and having him hold for a few seconds a while ago but then just didn't keep up on it. He's so easy tho I'm anxious to get to FF because it's going to be so easy with him I really think.
That's a great idea about the platform. I tried to teach Kiela to place on a mat once and it didn't go over that great. I'll have to try that.
Kiela's nickname is Baloo, just for when she's being goofy. When she's frustrating me, well, lots of names go through my head lol. Skeet usually gets the full name of Skeeter when he's not listening.![]()

Skeet is very good looking. Curious who the Sire and Dam are?
Whelchel -
Skeet is from WindyCanyon's litter late November. Here's the link to the pedigree:
