Seems like this Op Ed in the NY times is trying to absolve Nancy & her crew of "responsibility"
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/13/op...ed=2&th&emc=th
What ever happened to owning up to one's responsibilities? At least toward the end of the article, there is an indication that the Gang of Four could have acted responsibly if they had moral conviction on the matter. Then it is again excused because the memory of 9/11 was still "raw".
Whether waterboarding is torture in the most accepted sense or not ... if these people had or have a moral conviction about it, that moral conviction should not be subject to "fear". If it is "bad" now, it was also "bad" then. If it is "bad" now, then they failed to act in accordance with their convictions when they could have/should have stood up for their convictions.
I find it hard to trust those whose moral convictions are based on what is expeditious to their political careers. Doesn't matter whether they are D or R.

"At that or any other briefing, and that was the only briefing that I was briefed on in that regard, we were not -- I repeat, we were not -- told that waterboarding or any of these other enhanced interrogation methods were used, " Pelosi said on April 23.

Her contention is that in her briefing she was not told that these methods were actually used ... that they might be used. Her aide attended a meeting where those attending were told they were actually used. So, did her aide relay the information? Why else would he attend if not to report back to his boss?I wonder what kind of double talk she is going to do this time.
The Senator who had by then taken Pelosi's position on the Committee did write a letter of objection on the issue. Pelosi says she "supported the letter". Wonder how she could do that if she didn't know anything? So, at some point she definitely knew that the interrogation methods were being used. It appears that there is nothing in writing from Pelosi to indicate her "support" of the letter of objection.

Nancy Pelosi has been caught in a lie. Anyone surprised? I am not. How will the liberal media cover this? Will they spend much ink on this? Doubtful.
A week from now, most of the American people will forget Nancy Pelosi was caught lying just as they forgot California Senator Barbara Boxer had the most outstanding "bounced" checks (wasn't it over 800 checks she wrote on her government account when it was out of funds ?). I don't recall ever hearing the end of the "free loans" she acquired nor do I recall how much her total came to. And did she ever pay the money back?
Anyone remember the outcome?

Funny thing, Majority Leader Hoyer, a card carrying liberl from my home state sounds like he is willing to leave Nancy hanging out to dry on this one.

Last paragraph of the CNN article:
"But when asked whether Pelosi testifying would be appropriate, Hoyer did not directly answer the question, saying, "The issue is what was done. If you don't have the facts pounded on the table, they (Republicans) are pounding on the table, or they are pounding on Speaker Pelosi. Take your pick. But they are doing so as a distraction, as a distraction from what was done in this case."
To what is Hoyer refering to when he says in the last sentence, "...what was done in this case."?
'What was done' is Nancy lied about what she knew! She should be the poster child for term limits!!!
