You hit the nail on the head! The auto bailout has nothing to do with saving the domestic auto mfg's and everything to do with paying off the UAW that supported Obomo. The UAW is the largest culprit in the failure of Detroit's Big 3.

So now, the Feds and UAW will be running Gooberment Motors. With these idiots in charge, GM and Chrysler will be a bottomless pit in which the new Feds will be throwing borrowed money into!

Haven't been a Ford guy for a long time, but I if was buying a new vehicle, would probably get one just on the grounds of sending a message. PBO can take over GM & Chrysler but he can't make people buy 'em (yet).

I think it is now our patriotic duty to buy our vehicles from Ford Dealers.

I would have never made that statement in the past but things have changed over the last 120 days as we are on the fast track to socialism/communism. I waiting on the Feds to start announcing 3 and 5 year programs like the Soviets of the 1960's.

I own a Ford pickup and a Toyota passenger car. When I'm done with the Toyota, I will go with Ford. That is unless the gooberment performs a hostile takeover of Ford, which they might do. Ford's only option then would beto take more of thier production abroad to escape the UAW and Fed Czars.

Why should we stop taking money from them? And, it is not my call, that decision would come from corporate.

Now, if the broadcasters wanted to get together and ban dollars directly from GM and Chrysler just like we banned money from tobacco, I wouldn't oppose it.

And, looking at thier three year history of spending, they just aren't the spenders they were years ago. Heck, we get more phone/cell dollars than auto association dollars. However, the largest single category of advertisers is still the independent auto dealers.

"The UAW strongly objects to GM's plan to close 16 manufacturing facilities in the United States, while at the same time dramatically increasing the number of vehicles it will be importing from Mexico, Korea, Japan andChina for sale in this country," the e-mail said.

It said GM wants to nearly double the number of imports from those countries, costing 21,000 UAW jobs in the U.S.

GM acknowledged in documents submitted to Congress that it plans to start importing small cars from China starting in 2011, with the number rising to more than 51,000 by 2014. But the company says the percentage of cars made and sold in the U.S. will remain stable, with fewer imports likely from Canada.

Interesting that a US company imports to US vehicles made in Japan ... while Japanese car-makers have plants here to serve the US market.

If GM creates jobs in Mexico, will it decrease immigration from Mexico to the US?

Perhaps the reason China is so willing to lend the US money is because companies like GM are so willing to keep China's economy thriving? With China's dismal record in production of some other items, I wonder what the recalls will be like on the GM vehicles made in China?

Don't forget that the majority of the new Board Of Directors for GM is dominated by Obomo appointees and a member of the UAW. Meaning that whatever the UAW wants, they will get!

Looks like the government will own whatever is left of GM ... and we all know how good the government is at balancing any kind of budget.

GM may well turn out to be Oboma’s Iraq. The current administration will continue to pour money into the new GM and GM will basically becom an R & D company with limited production. Certainly not enough work in the future to keep all those UAW members busy. Borrowed money that we the tax payer will have to repay(I predict we will default on the largest portions of it) will go paying them to stay at home.
The only product that has made any profit in the entire GM lineup is their light duty trucks and SUV’s. Two models that are on Obomo’s list to end. This is a microcism of our new Feds attitude towards business!

And again, what happens to Ford? How do they compete against Comrade Obomo? Move to Canada or merge with GM? Possibly a Fed forced merger? The Feds went in and took over GM under the guise of bailing them out. Now they are by far the majority owner and the folks owning the bonds will experience a fininacial windfall. Then, we have a bunch of political types running industry! How crazy is this administration?

The financial wrecklessness of this administration is not only making a bad situation worse, they will severly damage everyone’s livelyhood as they redistribute everything they can get their hands on.
