    Default Revolution in Iran ?

This is a real opportunity for the USA.

We need to support the voters who were cheated. Current administration is calling for all media to leave the country. They don't want any pictures of what they are getting ready to do to the restless citizens.

    Akmadinajad(sp) is finished either way!

Makes one appriciate our Second Amendment. The only one with any real firepower in Iran is the government.

Are you advocating the CIA install another Shah? Didn't work to good the first time around.

    Just sayin'

It was a CIA-installed Shah in order to prevent the inevitabliity of a Kremlin installed puppet.

You mean a democratically elected president. Why do we seem to have trouble accepting anyone else's democratic choices? The only basis for calling Mosaddeq (who was a fervent anti-socialist) a communist was his refusal to allow England to continue to exercise colonial control over the entire Iranian oil industry. Good for him. The first democratically elected leader of a middle eastern country -- aristocratic by birth and educated in France and Switzerland -- and we threw him out and replaced him with a monarchist who retained power using the weight of our military and finances combined with a brutal secret service.

We have our own issues with running clean, fair elections.

If peanuthead Carter had backed our ally, the Shah, there would be no Islamic Republic and there would have been no hostage crisis. We need to stay out of this mess and let the Iranians work it out. It ain't like the elected officials run the country anyhow, the mullahs do.

I'm not suggesting boots on the ground. But, there is an opportunity in getting rid of Akmadinajad(sp) and eventually the Mullahs.

We should side with the reformist and make a statement of such. By verbally supporting them, we can help get a more moderate leader in place. It is only a matter of time before the Mullahs are marginalized by the will of the people.

The youth of Iran would like to be more Western. Lets help them be it!

Even if some of the ballots are recounted it won't help Akmadinajad. The Mullahs may declare him the winner but the majority of people will not accept him.

The situation is one of the best things that could have happened to the west. Now, lets take advantage of it and side with the oppostion.

Does anyone here really think there will be a recount with any results different than what there already is? A recount will show that Akmenadjhaid (i know that is not correct) won no matter how many votes he got. A couple more days of protest and everything goes back to they way it was a few weeks ago.

It would be nice to think otherwise, but I believe you are right. I suspect that any statements from the U.S. are more likely to strengthen Ahmadinejad (that spelling is correct ), than they are to help.It is not even clear that the election results are fraudulent although I suspect there may have been some manipulation to strengthen Ahmadinejad's margin of victory. One cannot tell how an election is going based on student demonstrations in urban centers. That does not necessarily reflect public sentiment in Iran any more than demonstrations in New York and LA would reflect sentiment across the breadth of America.

Not so fast my friend. Mossaddeq was "elected" in the same fashion as the prime ministers before him; by the lower house of the Iranian parliament (who were in turn elected by the people). And speaking of the previous "elected" prime ministers, Mossaddeq was the leader of a political group allied with the Iranian communists. Together they teamed up to assassinate the "elected" prime minister before him. So let's not try to paint Mossaddeq as the Iranian version of George Washington, OK?

It's easy to look back and pretend that overthrowing Mossaddeq was the wrong thing to do since that's not the position that we took and we will never know what might have been. As they say, highsight is 20/20. But since we're playing the what if...game for events that happened 60 years ago I would also like to extend to Prime Minister Mossaddeq some what if...advice as written 60 years ago:

    Dear Mr. Mossaddeq,

While the world is experiencing the height of the Cold War tensions and communist expansionism is on the march, and you're sitting on one of the most strategically valuable pieces of real estate on this earth, here are some things that you probably shouldn't do if you want to stay off of the "Communists Simps Who Are Against Us and Our National Strategic Interests" list:
    1. Don't be the leader of a group called The National Front (it has a kind of communisty ring to it if you catch my drift)
    2. Don't do what communist leaders typically do and nationalize major industries in your country (particularly when you're stealing from our most valuable ally in the world whom we teamed up with to save the world less than a decade ago...we're kinda fond of Britain if you didn't know already)
    3. Don't team up with communists to assassinate your political rivals and elected politicians
    4. Don't stage riots and rebellions with the help of your communist homies when you're not allowed to take over nearly every aspect of Iranian government
    5. After your rioting homies have kowtowed the govt. to accept your total rule, don't install your communist homies into key govt. positions

Mr. Mossaddeq, if you follow those simple guidelines you won't have much to worry about. You don't even need to like America. Just stop acting like a communist despot and I'm sure we won't treat you like one.

    Thanks,
    Hew
