Default Heat kills show dogs in vehicle

This story is extremely sad. I hope this "professional" handler is never allowed to do anything with dogs again. Very poor judgement on her part, at best.

One of our local police dogs died the day before yesterday training in the afternoon heat.

What a stupid you know what. Lack of judgement my eye, she put herself over those dogs and there not even hers. Lifetime banishment from dogs would be lean. Put her in the chair. no better yet put her in a crate in a van with no water. This just chaps my a$$

I know retriever people are usually pretty good about making the best decisions for their dogs, but these kind of situations remind us all to err on the side of lighter to no training in hot & humid weather. Even water work can be taxing on the dogs in hot weather.

If conditions are right, the dogs don't even have to be working to be stressed. The dogs in that van were in crates, supposedly with the doors open and fans on at night, and they still died. Very, very sad.

At the vet's office yesterday they told us they had treated more dogs for heat related injuries than they ever have in a whole year. Its only mid june

I will continue to be "too" careful with my dog even if we get no training until October.

There is no way those dogs got hot enough to die sitting in a van at night with doors open and fans on. No way. She is lying about something.

    "She is lying about something."

I think so too. In the article mention is made of how the timeframes given to not match the facts.

This girl (trainer, handler) needs to be ripped of her right to even own a dog from now own. I just can't even imagine being so tired or busy that I can't take the time to make sure that my dogs or any one else's at my house are taken care of properly in this heat or the cold for that matter (which is not really a problem where I live and train).

I am so jealous of the ones pro or am that are able to go north during hot days like these. In our area, we have had high 90's and many days that are above 100. Last Saturday was the hottest and worst. Offically 102 with a heat index of 114, but at my house (where I train) it registered 105. Now you add all the humidity that we always have here and you really have hot!!! Working in water offers no relief, it's just as hot, unless you happen to have a spring fed pond.
