but how about Marichal - Roseboro

throwing batteries from the stands at Dodger players

The rivalry continues...would you have it any other way
No I would not have it any other way!!!!

I am a baseball fan FIRST....

I just happen to be a member of the most heated rivalery in baseball, second!!!!!

I am to young to even speak about Marichal-Rose-who-ever (j/k) days.

    More like Clark-Gibson days for me...or Craig-Lasorda...(80's)

Ahhh who cares, Its Americas Pastime thats what matters. Not football, basketball, Hockey, Scoccer, Tennis, Golf, or any other sport you throw out there.

    Anybody but the BRONX BOMMERS!!

I got a good one, lets play whos the best!!!!!

My pick goes to a man that had his career cut short...a man that I patterned my playing days after...a man that still to this day is the only player to have the mandatory waiting period cut by MLB and the writers/voters...for induction to the Hall of Fame

ROBERTO CLEMETE....#21, the fastest man to 3000, 13 seasons over 300, 12 glod gloves, 4 batting titles and in 71 (I think) world seriers through 7 games batted 414, had 2 home runs, 2 doubles 1 tripple, and won the series MVP. To this day no one has had better world series average and over all production. he was the leauge MVP in 66 and was a 12 time all star.

All of this in a short 17 year career....and most say he actually did it in 14 seasons, because he was pleaged with injuries.

In his biography...and as a side note I have had the fortune to speak with this man, through business...WILLIE MAYS admits that the only person in his eyes better then he, was Roberto Clemente, they played togeter in the summers of 54,55,56 down in the LBBPR leagues. Now thats saying something considering that most people say its a "pick your poision" between Mays and have Mays say that Roberto was better...well to me there you have it.

As well another little known fact is that Roberto Clemente SERVED OUR COUNTRY..from 59-64 in the United States Marine Corp. reserves.

Just having some fun with this lets hear it who's the best in YOUR OPINION...key word "opinion" so let's not take this toooooo overboard.

The bestplayer I ever got to see play was Willy "Say Hey" Mays.
    He was my generations MJ.
We used to run in the outfield to catch fly balls and knock our hats off, just like Willy!!

I saw Stan the Man play, but he was getting older.

I think Hank Aaron is overlooked, not sure why but he could do it all.

Look at what Ted Williams did though.
Hit .388 at 38 years old!!

I was at Sportsmans Park the night Lou Brock played his first game as a Cardinal.
We all hated him and wanted to kill him.
St Louis has a big Italian community and they were furious that the Cards traded Ernie Broglio to the Cubs for Lou Brock.

Brock singled home the winning run in a pinch hit against the Pirates.
(anyways, that is how I remember it)

    Ernie who??

I love baseball as much as dogs!!

First game I ever went to was the Maricial Roseboro incident when I was 10years old. Friend's mother took 8 of us kids on the bus from Palo Alto to candlestick for his birthday. We sat in the left center field bleachers with a rather large black lady sitting behind us wearing a blue dodger hat. All through that came we razzed that lady and she beat us boys with that hat. What a game! Best of all the giants won!!!

I saw Brooks Robinson, the greatest 3rd baseman ever from his rookie season up till his retirement. I was at Memorial Stadium when Ted williams played there for the last time. I also saw Al Kayline there.

    My two best baseball thrills

    1. actually watching Sandy Koufax beat the Giants 3-2 at Dodger Stadium

    2. being in So Cal and working in a bar and watching Kirk Gibson's HR off Eckersley to win game 1 of the 88 World Series

Here is a great baseball story that truly defines what the game is.
    Communication between the generations.

My first memories that are clear of my Dad are baseball.
I remember our (my) first game with him!!
He bought me ice cream, I'm like 6 or 7.

My Dad took ill a while back and knew he wasn't gonna make it.
I visited him the final days before he passed.
We watched the Cardinals game (he lived in St Louis) and I got him ice cream.

May sound sad, but to me, how much better could it get??
