JAM Ribbons and Trial Dates

The rule book says:

SECTION 2. Each ribbon or rosette at a licensed or
member field trial shall be at least 2 inches wide and
approximately 8 inches long and shall bear on its face a
facsimile of the seal of The American Kennel Club, the
words Field Trial, the name of the prize, the name of

the club holding the field trial, and the date of the trial.

I had intended to look at how my club could save ourselves the hassle of dealing with JAM ribbons needing dates - we have in the past only ordered 3 JAM ribbons per stake and then mailed the others off. This is a huge PITA for us.

At the time I could not recall if a date was required for a JAM ribbon, but it is according to the rulebook. I took a look at our collection of ribbons and I have several (Bullet is the King of Green) JAM ribbons that do not have dates, even have an RJ ribbon that doesn't have the AKC logo or date.

I was wondering just how important the date is for JAM ribbons? It would save clubs money if they could order JAMs in bulk vs. having to make and guess the number of JAMs needed for each trial.

How serious is AKC about dates on JAM ribbons? Can't be too serious cause I have way too many without dates....would having the date requirement removed for JAMs be a rule change worth persuing? What does your club do about the rule - follow it or ignore it?

I'm just glad another club member handles ribbon ordering.

I added that option.....BTW I keep mine, I have yet to earn enough real colored ribbons to discard my greenies....every stupid ribbon still means something to me....

"You" still have to order them for the trial and it is a hassle to put the date on them.

Didn't the HT crowd successfully lobby recently to change the regs so clubs do not have to have dates on the ribbons? Why not just change the FT rules to allow clubs to not have to put the date? You could just borrow the boilerplate from HT regs and propose to to the RAC for consideration.

Placement ribbons should have dates, as in the case of disputed results, having a ribbon with everything printed on the central streamer (not little "date tabs" attached to the side, as I have seen at some HT) would be part of what AKC needed to untangle the issue. But I see no reason why JAM ribbons need a date.

It would save clubs time and money. Just have a boxfull of greenies available for use at every trial. When they run out, buy another boxfull.

Lisa, The dates have not been required on Hunt test ribbons for many years....at least 12, because we've been running tests for that long and none of our ribbons have dates on them except for the Master National ribbon.
