    Default Census Data Released 9/21/09

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_census...Vuc3VzcmVjZXNz

There is some very interesting data included. Some examples:

show a dip in the number of foreign-born last year, to under 38 million after it reached an all-time high in 2007. This was due to declines in low-skilled workers from Mexico searching for jobs in Arizona, Florida and California
The dip in foreign-born residents comes as the government considers immigration changes, including stepped-up border enforcement and a path toward U.S. citizenship. At nearly 38 million, immigrants made up 12.5 percent of the population in 2008; an estimated 11.9 million are here illegally.
An up-side to the recession? Fewer illegal aliens. Illegals still make up close to 33% of all non-citizen residents.

    WRT health insurance:
Health coverage swung widely by region, based partly on levels of unemployment. Massachusetts, with its universal coverage law, had fewer than 1 in 20 uninsured residents the lowest in the nation. Texas had the highest share, at 1 in 4, largely because of illegal immigrants excluded from government-sponsored and employer-provided plans.

In three large metro areas, Miami, San Jose, Calif., and Los Angeles, more than one-third of all residents are foreign-born.

The highest numbers were in agricultural communities with large Hispanic populations in California's San Joaquin Valley, South Texas and South Florida. Regions in New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, Alaska, Oklahoma and Georgia also fared poorly.
The numbers help explain why the debate over illegal immigration and health insurance is so heated.
It would appear that the highest rate of uninsured is among illegal aliens. If so, makes sense to make a stronger effort to send them home? Spending some money with INS, instead of govt-run health insurance?

Big headline in today's paper why Texas is now dead-last in uninsured(1 in 4) lack of a high school diploma(1 in 5).

At the same time touting increased "diversity" in population.

The stats were buried on page 7.....hispanic increase during this 2 year period.....up 9.8%. Hispanics have now surpassed Black Americans in the number of high school drop-outs by almost 3%.

Both Black and White's showed a population decline during this time period.

Un-insured....24.1% all ages with 30.4% of persons 18-64. Love to see the ethnic breakdown in those numbers and how many are illegals.

Approximately 20% of the uninsured are foreign born non-citizens. Most of these are illegal but some are legal. 76% of the uninsured are white. 46% are non-Hispanic white. (http://www.census.gov/prod/2009pubs/p60-236.pdf)

Based on year old data, whites make up about 25% of Texas uninsured and hispanics make up 59% versus 45% and 32% respectively nationwide. Your guestimate at the low end is pretty close. See http://www.statehealthfacts.org/prof...8&cat=3&rgn=45).
