Actually in 2007 Bush wholeheartedly supported a bi-partisan bill that gave amnesty to a majority of illegals.....it was voted down.

Road kill, I'm just pointing out the double standard that exists out there.

Although I know many conservatives were unhappy with Bush in immigration, I'm just trying to figure out what's changed. I have no love for illegals. My brother pretty much got driven out of the drywall business because he could not get a bid on a job that would make money for him. The business in his area was literally overtaken by a bunch of folks who could not speak a word of english. All the contractors around that area gleefully put the illegals to work on their new houses. The vast majority of those contractors were, you guessed it, conservatives.

Somebody smarter than me said that democrats figured out that immigrants (legal and illegal) comprised a valuable voting block. Republicans figured out they comprise a valuable cheap labor block. Wonder why NOBODY has done anything?

Why is it that if you cross the North Korean border illegally you get thrown into prison and get 12 years of hard labor... If you illegally cross the Iranian border while out supposedly leisurely hiking in the hills you get arrested and imprisoned... But if you cross the U.S. Border illegally you get a drivers license, a Social Security card and free health care?

Because they are linked to a huge voting bloc that neither party has the stones to stand up to. Wrong is wrong and illegal is illegal no matter who is in the WH. Time to man up and do something about it.

And obviously others who will never hold the current administration accountable for its own mistakes because thier hero always whines "It's Bush's fault!" This jerk spent millions of other people's dollars campaining for this job. Isn't it about time he just went to work? Did he really not know what the challenges might be when he applied?

Reagan did the amnesty thing, and it was a band-aid. And it encouraged more to come here illegally, figuring eventually they, too, would get amnesty. Guess what?

I don't think we have to become NK or Iran to protect our borders.

My guess is that NK and Iran have to assume that anyone trying to get INto their countries are NOT doing so for a better-paying job. They assume it is for some ulterior motive of spying, etc. since there don't seem to be a lot of glossy brochures extolling "the good life" in those two countries.
