I want to say a special word of congratulations to Mike Keen and the wonderful dog we both have come to admire and love...Cash.
If you recall last year about this time I was struggling with an injured dog who needed knee surgery. The injury was severe and could have been career ending if not for the help of some dedicated folks and one very determined canine named Texas Cash IV...Cash.
After his surgery Cash had to undergo rehabilitation for many months. Mike's son Glen actually...physically...carried Cash to the pond for swims so he would not run and jump in further damaging the knee. Glen would get in the boat some times and keep Cash in the water for long swimming episodes. When the knee joint and surrounding muscles were strong enough we felt it was time to start back with training to see if Cash could handle the rigors of daily workouts...that he did with unstoppable zeal!
I entered Cash in a couple of events this spring just to see what we needed to work on for this fall (which was our target for heavy competition) and he actually made it to the last series in very good shape of two events only to miss the difficult retired bird of both tests.
Well, this weekend he did not miss that difficult retired bird! What is even more amazing is that Cash has had to adapt to his new handler, Mike, and do so in quick fashion. Mike and Cash have only been a team now for a few weeks. In fact, I have to say that I have pounded on Mike more than we have trained Cash...both have responded well.
Congrats you two...may the future be colored with many blues!!
