Osama has a problem with 10% unemployment, that certainly is not the direction America should be heading. We are on the road to a socialist state, and that is for sure the wrong path.

Third-quarter GDP reading shows growth at 3.5 percent pace


WASHINGTON - The U.S. economy grew at a 3.5 percent pace in the third quarter, the best showing in two years, fueled by government-supported spending on cars and homes. It's the strongest signal yet that the economy has entered a new, though fragile, phase of recovery and that the worst recession since the 1930s has ended.
President Barack Obama hailed the data, saying the country has "come a long way" since early this year.

Also from the referenced report: "Armed with cash from government support programs, consumers led the rebound in the third quarter, snapping up cars and homes."

Even the AP and msnbc saw fit to put a dose of reality into the report. What happens when OPM (other people's money) runs out and the government props are gone?

Only fiscal responsibility will bring real recovery, not artifical programs that require more spending.

With the economy GDP growing by 3.5% and the economy on the rise, seems to be counter to what RK's post seems to suggest.

.... While the stock market has picked up and the country appears to be pulling out of the recession, a majority of Americans - for the first time in the Obama presidency - says the U.S. is headed down the wrong track, according to a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll conducted Oct. 22-25.


Fifty-two percent say the country is on the wrong track compared to 36 percent who say it is headed in the right direction with 9 percent saying conditions are mixed and 3 percent undecided. While there have been pluralities saying the U.S. is on the wrong track in four of the previous five WSJ/NBC polls during Obama's presidency, this is the first time the number broke 50 percent. The one month where that was not true was April when 43 percent said things were on the right track and an equal number said they were going in the opposite direction.

To give this a context, the last time 52% of the people felt that the country was headed in the wrong direction was November 2005. Between then and Obama's inauguration, the number was much, much higher (ranging up to 78%). Following Obama's inauguration, the percentage dropped immediately to 43-44%. It has been creeping up slowly since then as would be expected until economic conditions for average people begin to improve.

With the exception of the period of six months following 9/11, the last time less than 40% of the people believed we were heading in the wrong direction was when Clinton was President.

But White House economic adviser Jared Bernstein says officials have been told the figures. When adding in jobs linked to $288 billion in tax cuts, Bernstein says the stimulus plan has created or saved more than 1 million jobs.

I doubt there is a way to accurately count 'saved' jobs.

Is there a hotline at the White House where business owners can call in and say 'Mr. Obama, thank you. My business was going to shut its doors last week, but thanks to your stimulus plan, we are still open for business! We have 10 employees.'? Then some intern puts 10 more tally marks on the chalkboard?
