Default I am surprised this isn't already up!!

    The System Failed

Pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), the explosive Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to detonate aboard Northwest Airlines flight 253, is among the most powerful of explosives in the world and was widely used to blow up airplanes in the 1970s and 1980s. The only reason the passengers of Flight 253 are still alive today is because Mr. Abdulmutallab’s syringe detonator failed for still unknown reasons.
Yet despite the facts that PETN is easily detected and Mr. Abdulmutallab’s father warned the U.S. embassy in Nigeria about his son this November, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano had the audacity to go on television yesterday and say “the system worked” and that the suspect was properly screened. The “system worked?” The 278 passengers on flight 253 could be dead today but for a faulty syringe and the Obama administration considers that a success? That is pure idiocy. Idiocy that is a direct threat to the security of this country and that goes to the heart of the Obama administration’s approach to the war on terror.

What on earth could Secretary Napolitano possibly mean when she said the “system worked?” The answer can be found at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor where on Saturday U.S. District Judge Paul Borman read Mr. Abdulmutallab the charges the Obama administration has filed against him for trying to blow up Flight 253. And the Obama administration probably will win a slam dunk conviction of Mr. Abdulmutallab. But his conviction will not make us any safer than the convictions of the 1993 World Trade Center bombers did during the Clinton administration. Prosecuting terrorists when we can is necessary to protect our country, but is in no way sufficient.

The Obama administration continues to demonstrate that they believe counterterrorism is a law enforcement problem to be managed, not a war to be won. Hence Attorney General Eric Holder’s insistence on sending Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other terrorists to New York for a civilian trial in federal court. The five defendants are already plotting how best to air their grievances and exploit their treatment while in detention. Worse, criminalizing the war on terror will force our government to give up the chance to interrogate terrorists like any enemy combatants and lose invaluable intelligence.

The Flight 253 incident was an intelligence failure. Instead of focusing on convictions, the Obama administration should be focusing on gathering the intelligence necessary to best protect the American people. This aborted attack provides a visceral reminder that terrorists remain committed to killing Americans. But it also illustrates the need to:

    Work with international partners on countering terrorism;
Defend the domestic intelligence and law enforcement tools that disrupt plots inside the U.S.; and
Pursue foreign terrorist sanctuaries that serve as staging grounds for international operations.

Clearly, terrorists have not wavered in their resolve to strike America. The United States must be equally resolute in its response.

The Administration is in over-thier-heads and haven't come to grasp the severity of the situation. After religious wack-job Hassan killed 13 people at Ft Hood, their immediate reaction was that this was not an act of religious terrorism. The fact is that we have evidence of his communications to a radical cleric in Yeman. That cleric encouraged the shootings at FT Hood. Bush/Cheney were far more pre-emptive in handling terrorist! At least the current administration snuffed the cleric and his henchman last week. Had we not and the information came out that the administration didn't act, the reprecussions would have been too much for O to handle. We need to let our intelligence agencies use all thier skills in keeping them in check.

Why would you bother putting that on this BB, RK? The left here that helped put this regime in power, have no negative views on the like of a Napolitano. Hey! This is one woman they can believe in, and who are we to be against her right to 'raise' the glass ceiling? Only sexists, homophobes and racists would complain about the fine job she is doing.

Besides, she learned from Kerry, the correct way to vote against anything is to have voted for it first, so much like the maligned and misunderstood 'independants' on this BB, we should be tolerant of their views, because they are neutral on these events. Just ask Roger, or DNF.

I can hardly wait for which will be the first to defend this poor woman, and condone the new restrictions on air travel, thinking that will resolve the problem one iota.

Until we get over being so damned PC about these jihadists among us, we will deserve what they do. A freedom loving society is easy pickings for the sincere hard-core criminal, or the brain-washed lunitic, that has nothing to live for but self- aggrandizement.

The PC have castrated and sissyfied the protection members we are supposed to place our faith in, so they are reluctant to stop any of the garbage that goes on in our society, for fear they will be the ones called on the carpet, and their professional life ruined.

Recently the main street press was all agog with the new numbers on how much crime has been reduced in our nation. NOT ONE DAMNED SELF-RIGHTEOUS REPORTER OF THAT STORY GOT THE REASON CORRECT!!! They had all sorts of interviews with other self-righteous authorities, who provided a mouthful of bullcrap. The obvious answer to the lowering of the crime rate is there have been more guns for private protection sold in the past year than in any single year in history. PLUS, there have been more "right-to-carry" passes issued than any other time.

If you lefties think this is an anomoly, better think again. It's time for the PC crowd to take a hike. It was a joke when it became popular, and now those that drank the koolaide think it's their right, but not in a nation of patriots and freedom lovers.

Oh...you mean Homeland Security Secretary Janet Incompitano is struggling? We here in Arizona are simply shocked that you find our contribution to this administration inadequate After all...she is the one that moved Border Patrol Agents from the southern to the northern border (those pesky Canadians) and deployed the National Guard on the border.....without buuulets (of course), so when they were approached by 'gun tote'n' Mexicano's....they had to flee in full and disorderly retreat.

The president, issuing a statement Monday during his holiday vacation in Honolulu, said U.S. authorities will not rest until they find everyone involved in the attack in Detroit and hold them accountable.

Yemeni forces, helped by U.S. intelligence, carried out two airstrikes against al-Qaida operatives in the country this month. The second one was a day before the attempted bombing of the plane.

What else would y'all like to be done? Invade Yemen and Nigeria?

Instead of criticizing, lets here your solutions on what needs to be done.

Those airstikes were because of the FT Hood murderer's ties to the cleric that encourged him to shoot innocent people last month. The killings that the O administration first said was not an act of terrorism.

What should we do? Take the handcuffs off our intelligence agancies that were placed on them by the current administration!

Lets see, a Nigerian citizen bought a round trip ticket in Yemen to Detroit which had a stop over in Amsterdam. Wouldn't it be the job of the Amsterdam security to find out if someone there boarding a plane breached security?
