I have a new pup and would like to get into Hunt Test or maybe field trials. I want this pup to be the best that he can and I owe it to him. I got this pup a week ago and started him on Deep Forks Puppy head start program and I think he is doing ok. At what age should a trainer be envolved? Is there any good trainers in western Oklahoma that you would recomend? I really don't want to send the puppy off. I would like to work with the trainer if possible. Thanks

Don't worry too much about screwing your dog up. That's what I did and I got to the point to where i didn't want to do anything or push him for fear of "screwing" him up. Obviously don't go overboard in either direction and you'll be fine. Now don't go and think I know what I'm talking about when it comes to dog training, I'm just tellin' ya what I went through.
Get on a program- Lardy or Smartworks. Get the material now so you can be reading and viewing while hes a pup. Remember, let him be a pup and not rush it. You'll have time. The basics of all training-- consistency and repetition.

What about the place you bought it? Isn't he/she a trainer or can they at least help you find one to fit your desires. As others said, take your time...find a program and follow it.
He has been good he gave me one of his videos that he put together but it sure is differant from most of the video's that I have watched. I'm going back to him this week so he can see how the puppy is coming along. I will look into the other programs that the people have suggested. Thanks
After watching the Hillman puppy DVD a few times, I would think that would be a good place to start, if followed through that stage of the dogs life I really don't think many could screw up, and I would think alot of pro's would be really happy if they got the pup at 6 monthes after they went through the program.
