An article on the internet shows KC is going to shut down 29 of their 61 schools to avoid bankruptcy. This is the school district that built a Taj Mahal High School, no expense spared, which included an Olympic size swimming pool to help the students in the learning process. A portion of those costs were court ordered, but the majority of them were the brain child of those who believe we need to throw more money at education.

Apparently, that experiment failed, miserably.

Sounds like a republican district! We have those here too, where a local attorney coaches the rowing team, and I don't even want to know what a long pointy boat like those costs! Let alone the boathouse, truck, trailer, etc...

Where I come from, education requires parents who care, good quality teacher who cares, a safe building, and an open field or playground. No field houses with multi million dollar equipment, no multimillion dollar football stadiums....you get the point. Our school district, which is overwhelmingly staunch conservative republican, is voting to spend $2 million to upgrade to an artificial turf football field and new stands! So much for fiscal responsibility. Me? I think churches, YMCA, glee clubs, etc should have sports teams. Let kids get educated in school, with basic phys-ed, like we had.
